KOT ADDU – A disturbing case from Pakistan sparked shock and outrage after a viral clip showed woman being forced to drink water from a shoe for demanding her Haq Mehr (dower). According to FIR, the victim was also assaulted, threatened, and humiliated, prompting police to register a case against her husband and two other suspects as the incident drew widespread condemnation on social media.
The shocking case surfaced from Daira Din Panah Police Station in Kot Addu, where a woman was allegedly tortured and forced to drink water from a shoe after demanding her Haq Mehr (dower). A video purportedly showing the humiliating act has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the incident took place on 20 June in Chak No. 144/ML, located approximately seven miles east of Daira Din Panah Police Station. However, the case was formally registered on 23 June after the victim’s father submitted a written complaint to police.
The complainant, Saeed Ahmad, a daily wage labourer, told police that his daughter Iqra Bibi had been married to Muhammad Hasnain for 3 years. He alleged that the gold promised as her Haq Mehr had not been returned to her, and when she demanded it, she was allegedly subjected to severe abuse.
FIR said that on 20 June, the accused, including the woman’s husband Muhammad Hasnain, Ijaz Ahmad, and an unidentified accomplice, allegedly assaulted the woman, threatened to kill her, and forced her to drink water from a shoe. The suspects are also accused of recording the incident on video and uploading it to social media, where it later spread widely.
The family was informed about the incident on 21 June at around 9:25 a.m. After reaching the accused’s residence, they were allegedly shown the video. FIR further alleges that victim’s father and brother were assaulted and slapped by the accused before local residents intervened and rescued them.
Police referred the victim for a medical examination at the Rural Health Centre (RHC), Daira Din Panah. Investigators prepared an injury report and registered a criminal case, invoking provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code after concluding that a cognizable offence appeared to have been committed.
Police nominated Muhammad Hasnain, Ijaz Ahmad, and one unidentified suspect in the case. An investigation is underway, while the viral video has intensified public calls for swift legal action and accountability in what rights advocates describe as another disturbing example of domestic abuse and the humiliation of women.
