Pakistan Rejects Reuters Speculative Report On Makkah Defence Agreement

ISLAMABAD – The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has rejected what it described as speculative reporting concerning the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, reiterating the country’s firm commitment to the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Haramain Sharifain.

In a fact-check shared on Twitter, the ministry said Pakistan’s commitment to the security of Haramain Sharifain and Saudi Arabia had already been clearly stated and remained non-negotiable.

The ministry also said that details concerning the operationalisation of collective deterrence were subject to operational confidentiality. It cautioned against making such matters the subject of media speculation.

The ministry urged caution over reports based on unnamed or non-attributable sources, saying official statements issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant authorities should be referred to for information on the matter.

It further advised Reuters to seek clarification from the concerned official authorities regarding any queries instead of reporting what it described as unverified numbers and details.

The ministry’s statement comes as it sought to distinguish officially confirmed information from speculative reports regarding the defence agreement and its operational arrangements.
