In a significant step towards strengthening economic and investment ties between Pakistan and Japan, Mr. Gauhar Zahid Malik, President of Pakistan Observer, and Ms. Hinza Asif, President of the Asia Web3 Alliance Japan (AWAJ), held a high-level meeting at the Pakistan Observer head office in Islamabad to explore new avenues for bilateral business cooperation, foreign investment, and startup development.
The meeting was also attended by Ms. Sadaf Abbas, Financial Consultant of AWAJ and representative of Oak Business Consultant.
During the discussions, both sides examined opportunities for attracting international investors to Pakistan and supporting the country’s rapidly growing startup ecosystem.
Particular focus was placed on creating practical pathways for promising startups to transition towards Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) and gain access to capital markets for sustainable long-term growth.
The participants emphasized the critical role of startups in driving innovation, creating employment opportunities, and contributing to economic development. They discussed the need for enhanced financial, regulatory, and institutional support mechanisms to enable emerging enterprises to scale their operations and compete globally.
A key area of discussion was the promotion of Islamic startups and the expansion of Shariah-compliant investment opportunities through the development of Islamic capital market initiatives. The participants noted the increasing global demand for ethical and Islamic finance products and highlighted Pakistan’s potential to emerge as a regional hub for Islamic entrepreneurship and investment.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Gauhar Zahid Malik stated that Pakistan offers immense opportunities for foreign investors and entrepreneurs. He noted that ongoing economic reforms, investor-friendly policies, and improving market conditions are enhancing the country’s attractiveness as a destination for international investment.
Ms. Hinza Asif underscored the importance of strengthening business and investment linkages between Pakistan and Japan. She reaffirmed AWAJ’s commitment to facilitating collaboration among international investors, technology companies, and Pakistani startups to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic growth.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing optimism that stronger cooperation between Pakistani and international stakeholders would help attract greater foreign direct investment, accelerate technological advancement, and contribute to Pakistan’s economic development. They also agreed to continue exploring strategic partnerships aimed at creating new opportunities for investors, entrepreneurs, and businesses in both countries.
