Pakistan Forces Intercept Five Drones As Attack On Security Post Foiled In Balochistan

KARACHI – Security forces have thwarted an attempted drone attack on a checkpost in Balochistan’s Kharan district, bringing down five unmanned aerial vehicles before they could reach their intended destination.

The incident took place in the Albat area, where the drones were reportedly directed towards a security checkpost. Alert security personnel detected the threat and swiftly responded, successfully neutralising all five aerial devices.

Officials said the timely intervention prevented any damage, while no casualties or property losses were reported.

The latest incident comes amid heightened security concerns over the increasing use of drones in cross-border and militant operations. Last month, Pakistan’s air defence network also intercepted eight drones that allegedly entered its airspace from Afghanistan.

Security sources said the aircraft were detected and destroyed before they could pose a threat. They added that air defence arrangements along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border remain active and operational, with the Pakistan Air Force maintaining round-the-clock surveillance and readiness.

Pakistan has faced a growing number of militant attacks, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, since the Afghan Taliban took control of Afghanistan in August 2021.

Islamabad has repeatedly called on the authorities in Kabul to prevent armed groups from using Afghan territory as a base for attacks against Pakistan. Pakistani officials accuse militant organisations operating from across the border of targeting security personnel and civilians.

The Afghan Taliban administration, however, has rejected Pakistan’s allegations, leaving tensions between the neighbouring countries unresolved.
