Pakistan-Kuwait defence ties entered new phase as Pakistan and Kuwait signed new defence protocol that will see Pakistan Army assist in training and capacity-building of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces, while expanding cooperation in border management and other key security areas.
Pakistan and Kuwait have taken major step toward deepening their strategic and military partnership, signing the Protocol Agreement 2026 to expand defence cooperation between the two brotherly countries.
The new agreement builds on military cooperation framework established under the 2023 Defence Cooperation Agreement, opening the door to wider collaboration in military training, capacity building, border management and other mutually agreed areas of defence cooperation. Under protocol, Pakistan Army will provide training and capacity-building support to the Kuwaiti Armed Forces, while both sides will work to further strengthen institutional defence ties and cooperation.
The development came during high-level visit by Kuwait’s Defence Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, who led a delegation to Pakistan and held talks with Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif at the Ministry of Defence in Rawalpindi. The meeting covered matters of mutual interest, bilateral defence relations and security cooperation before the two sides formally signed the new protocol.
Pakistan and Kuwait described the agreement as a reflection of their deep mutual trust, respect and shared strategic interests, while reaffirming their commitment to building an even stronger and more enduring defence partnership.
The two countries also agreed to enhance defence cooperation in support of mutual security, regional peace and stability.
Earlier, Kuwaiti Defence Minister visited General Headquarters (GHQ), Rawalpindi, where he met Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
Kuwaiti Armed Forces Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Khaled Daraj Saad Al-Sharyan also accompanied the delegation. The meeting focused on regional security, bilateral defence cooperation and matters of mutual interest, with both sides expressing a desire to further strengthen institutional ties.
Kuwaiti delegation praised the professionalism, operational expertise and services of Pakistan’s Armed Forces in contributing to regional peace and stability.
The signing of the 2026 protocol marks a fresh push to institutionalise and expand defence cooperation between Pakistan and Kuwait, strengthening a relationship that both sides view as rooted in historic, fraternal and strategic ties.
