Pakistan Army secured first position in the 35th National Games, bagging 353 medals, including 200 gold, 97 silver and 56 bronze.
Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony held in Karachi on Saturday. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah were also present.
Wapda secured second spot with 232 medals, out of which 85 were gold, 73 silver and 74 bronze. Pakistan Navy was in the third place with 110 medals, 36 of which were gold, 39 were silver, and 35 were bronze. Sindh secured third position with 96 medals, out of which 11 were gold, 26 were silver and 59 were bronze.
After the distribution of the medals, CDF Field Marshal Asim Munir officially declared the closure of the National Games.
Addressing the ceremony, Bilawal stated that the National Games were not merely a competition of speed, strength or skill but a celebration of Pakistan. He said that athletes carried the colours of their respective provinces but stood united under one flag. He said that Sindh was proud to have hosted the National Games.
Referring to the athletes, he said that they were ambassadors of discipline, perseverance and national unity. He said that teamwork, courage, respect for rules and resilience in the face of challenge were not just sporting values but national values.
Referring to the face-off with India in May this year, he said that the forces demonstrated professionalism, coordination and strength. He said that it was a national victory which reflected the unity of people, the discipline of forces and the unbreakable bond between the nation and those who stand guard over it.
