ISLAMABAD – The National Security Committee (NSC), chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is to assess the regional security landscape in light of escalating tensions between Iran and Israel and the recent US strikes on Iran.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is chairing the meeting while chiefs of the armed forces, key federal ministers and security officials are also present.

The sources said that the committee is reviewing the implications of the conflict for regional stability and Pakistan’s national security.

The agenda included both external and internal security concerns, with major policy decisions expected regarding Pakistan’s stance and preparedness amid the evolving situation.

Earlier, the spokesperson for Iran’s Central Military Command has warned of powerful operations with serious consequences for the United States, stating that America’s involvement in the conflict has expanded the range of legitimate targets.

Addressing US President directly, the spokesperson said, “Mr. Trump, you can start this war but we will be the ones to end it,”.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei also issued a stern statement, holding the US and Israel accountable for any consequences of the escalating conflict.

“No one knows what the future holds, but one thing is certain: the responsibility for the consequences of this war lies with the United States and the Zionist regime,” he said.

Baghaei added, “the recent statements and threats of further attacks by US President Trump amount to global bullying. We will exercise our right to self-defense,”.

The statements come after the United States launched a massive aerial and naval assault on three major Iranian nuclear facilities, using 125 warplanes, ships and submarines. In a historic first, B-2 bombers were deployed in such large numbers to drop 14 GBU-57 “bunker buster” bombs on Natanz and Fordow nuclear plants.

The aim of the US strikes was to cripple Iran’s underground nuclear infrastructure and prevent Tehran from enriching uranium to levels that could be used for nuclear weapons.

However, the analysts cautioned that damaging the facilities alone is unlikely to eliminate Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

“Unless the US also dismantles Iran’s high-grade uranium enrichment systems, explosive components, and complex technologies, the goal of halting Iran’s nuclear ambitions will remain unattained,” experts said.

They also noted that it might take time to assess the full impact of what they described as the most destructive US strike against Iran to date.
