As else where in the country, a program was also held in Election Office Attock in connection with “National Voters Day”.
District Election Commissioner Noor ul Lhitab said that the day is being celebrated to commemorate first general elections which were held on 7th December 1970. The function was attended by CEO Cantt Board Kamara Muhammad Abdullah, ADLG Javed Bhatti, Election Officer Syed Zaigham Altaf, Former City Nazim Rana Shoukat, Haji Akram Khan, Former Nazim Malowali Malik Riaz u Din, Malik Minhaj u Din, Sheikh Asif Siddiqui, Capt Faqir Muhammad (Retd), Chairman Attock Press Club Nadeem Raza Khan, Madam Shireen Aslam and otjers Distt Election Commissioner Noor ul Khitab said on this day people are made literate about electoral process for a strong democracy. Voter education and revival of citizens faith in the electoral process. He said, on this very day people are being told about the importance of vote and are also told to ensure registeration of their votes timely.
He said that non governmental organisations are also playing their role in educating people about the importance of vote.
Noor ul Khitab said, now the process of registeration of vote has been simplified and only CNIC is the prerequisite and now people can verify their vote by sending their CNIC number on 8300 through their cell phones. He said, registeration of vote is the national obligation of every citizen as it is essential for strengthning democracy. Noor Ul Khitab said the population of Attock district is 1883556 while the number of registered voters are 1276420 which include 668306 male and 608114 female voters.
