Naqvi drives change

INTERIOR Minister Mohsin Naqvi continues to distinguish himself as a reformist voice within government, steadily steering key institutions toward greater efficiency and modernization.

From his earlier efforts to transform National Police Academy Islamabad on modern lines to now spearheading technological upgrades within the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Naqvi’s proactive leadership is a welcome sign for a country long in need of institutional transformation.

In a major step forward, the FIA has developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered application to streamline immigration procedures and tackle the longstanding issue of human smuggling. The pilot project will be installed at Islamabad International Airport, where it is expected to significantly reduce passenger wait times and improve the agency’s ability to detect and prevent trafficking attempts. During a high-level briefing at the FIA Headquarters, Mohsin Naqvi was updated on the app’s progress and the broader modernization agenda. In response, he immediately announced the release of funds for necessary IT upgrades and called for the urgent renovation of the FIA Headquarters. These actions clearly show that this is not a symbolic gesture, but a serious and sustained commitment to long-term institutional reform. The use of AI in immigration services is a much-needed and timely innovation. Pakistan has long struggled with the menace of human trafficking. Traditional methods are no longer sufficient to address the complexities of modern transnational crimes. By integrating AI, the FIA is equipping itself with tools for real-time threat detection, pattern analysis and faster, smarter decision-making. But this initiative is more than just a technical upgrade—it is a reflection of a visionary leadership style. The Interior Minister is not only championing change but also ensuring that reform is matched by investment, infrastructure and intent. His emphasis on rapid implementation and institutional support underscores his deep understanding of the urgency of the task at hand. With technology as an enabler, we now have the opportunity to create institutions that are not only efficient but also resilient and responsive. The FIA’s AI-powered system could very well serve as a model for other departments looking to harness technology for public service and national security.
