Mwm Chief Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Notified As Opposition Leader In Senate

ISLAMABAD – Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) Chief Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, who was backed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been notified as Opposition Leader in Senate.

Senate Chairman Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani formally named Allama Raja Nasir for the said post.

The Senate Secretariat issued the designation under Rule 16(3) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Senate, 2012, and took effect immediately.

The development took place just a week after appointment of Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP) head Mehmood Khan Achakzai as the opposition leader in the National Assembly.

The PTI leaders had been demanding the appointment of Allama Raja Nasir Abbas as opposition leader in the Senate.

The position in the Senate had remained unfilled since August last year after former opposition leader Senator Shibli Faraz was disqualified by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) following his conviction in cases linked to the May 9, 2023, riots.

Addressing the Senate, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas said that he was made opposition leader due to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan. He said the lawmakers should closely observe the problems of the people. He said that the majority of the public does not have money to pay electricity bills. He said that the elite class spends huge amount on weddings but they should contribute to the problems of the poor people. Allama Raja Nasir Abbas also emphasized upon consensus and unity in fight against terrorism. He said that what is happending in the KP should not have taken place.

The opposition leader in Senate said that everyone should play their roles to address the problems of the country.  He also talked about US President Donald Trump, criticising him for his announcements to attack Iran and many other states like Greenland. He questioned his status for such statements.
