Piacl Board Highlights Safety Efficiency Gains Ahead Of Privatization

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has approved a major overhaul of its organizational structure as part of a wider reform programme aimed at reducing administrative layers and improving operational efficiency.

Under the restructuring, the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) has been abolished along with the department operating under the post.

The position of General Manager (GM) Security has also been removed, with security functions now placed directly under the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

PIA has also eliminated the GM Works position and transferred the relevant department to the Human Resources (HR) division. The post of GM Passenger Handling Services (PHS) has similarly been discontinued.

As part of the revised arrangement, GM Kapil Kumar has been given the additional responsibility of serving as Acting General Manager.

Meanwhile, Zulqarnain Mehdi has been appointed Special Assistant to the CEO and tasked with overseeing ground operations. His responsibilities will include water transport, airport services and ramp services.

A PIA spokesperson said the restructuring is intended to address administrative expansion and create a more streamlined organizational framework. The changes are expected to simplify the airline’s management structure while improving the efficiency of its operations.
