Lahore has witnessed a sharp rise in roti and naan prices, with roti selling at Rs20 and naan reaching Rs35.
The suspension of subsidised flour supplies has raised concerns about further price hikes.
The United Naan Roti Association has refused to follow government-prescribed rates, citing soaring production costs. Association President Aftab Aslam Gul said subsidised flour previously provided by the Food Department had enabled tandoor owners to sell roti at officially fixed prices.
Gul said a 10-kilogram flour bag that once cost Rs1,100 was no longer available at that rate, with a 15kg bag now costing Rs2,350. He added that rising liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices had further increased the financial burden on tandoor operators.
He urged the government to restore subsidised supplies of flour and gas to help stabilise roti and naan prices and provide relief to consumers.
