Lahore Police clamour heard 33 police stations get land for ‘own’ buildings


At the Lahore police clamour was heard as the district administration has allocated suitable space for 33 outlying police stations in different areas of the metropolis.
According to sources privy to the development, the Lahore Deputy Commissioner wrote a letter to Secretary Colonies to give place of police stations to Lahore Police. Currently, there are 33 police stations of the Lahore Police, which are functioning either in flats or other rented buildings due lack for suitable space for new building of these police stations since long but no any site could be provided.
However, no this longstanding problem has been resolved with the provision of suitable land for buildings of these police station. The district government allotted 7 kanals and 2 marlas for Gujjarpura police station, five kanals and one marla for Shahdara Town police station and two kanals and 17 marlas for Shafiqabad police station; six kanals for Batapur police station, five kanals and 4 marlas for Harbanspura police station while Hanjarwal police station gets two kanals of space.
According to sources, three kanals and 10 marlas has been allocated for Stokatla; four kanals for Johar Town, five kanals for Wahdat Colony police station and one kanal and 17 marlas for Samanabad Police station has been allocated. Similarly, one kanal and one marla has been allotted for Millat Park police station and three kanals for Shera Kot police station.
The sources said that with the change in the condition of the police stations in the city, the culture of the police stations can be changed in real sense, but it will take many years to complete these police stations.
On the other hand, it has been decided to set up an investigation wing in the Lahore Traffic Police to investigate road accidents.
It has been learnt that an investigation wing will be set up in Lahore as a pilot project, for which the IG Punjab has sought working papers from the Lahore police.
According to police data, more than 2,000 accidents take place in Lahore every year in which human lives are lost, their cases are registered but due to lack of full understanding of the ground realities, those responsible for these accidents get off scotch free.
