LAHORE –Lahore is only behind Delhi on the list of the world’s most polluted cities, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 277 (very unhealthy).
The lack of rain and stable atmospheric conditions caused the gradual accumulation of pollutants emitted from stationary and moving sources.
According to the data collected from the IQ Air website on Monday at 09:20 pm, India’s Delhi leads the list with an AQI of 557 (hazardous), followed by Lahore with an AQI of 277 (very unhealthy).
Uzbekistan’s Tashkent ranked third with an AQI of 244 (very unhealthy), followed by Dhaka (Bangladesh) with an AQI of 223 (very unhealthy).
AQI of fifth to eighth-ranked cities is unhealthy, while that of ninth and tenth cities is unhealthy for sensitive groups.
Kolkata (India) ranked fifth with an AQI of 178 (unhealthy), followed by Caro (Egypt) with an AQI of 162. Kuwait City (Kuwait) and Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) are in seventh and eighth spot with AQI of 159 and 155 (unhealthy), respectively.
Milan (Italy) ranked ninth with an AQI of 149 (unhealthy for sensitive groups), followed by Manama (Bahrain) with an AQI of 142 (unhealthy for sensitive groups).
