Lahore Gymkhana Faces Scrutiny Over Lease, Foreign Liquor Sales

Four executive members of the Lahore Gymkhana Club have called for an urgent meeting of the Committee of Management (COM), citing concerns over the club’s affairs and declining reputation.

In a letter addressed to the Lahore Gymkhana Club secretary, Tasneem Noorani, Ziaur Rehman, Kamran Lashari and Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera expressed serious concern over discussions in the Punjab Assembly regarding the club’s lease and the alleged open sale of foreign liquor without permits, including questions surrounding its licensing, fees and profits.

They said the negative discussion about the Lahore Gymkhana Club in the Punjab Assembly could damage the club’s image and put its future at risk. They demanded that the club management take all executive members into confidence and explain what steps were being taken in response to the matter.

The development comes after MPAs Chaudhry Amjad Ali Javed and Rao Kashif submitted an adjournment motion in the Punjab Assembly concerning the Lahore Gymkhana Club.

The motion states that the club, spread over 40 acres, has an annual lease of only Rs5,000, while foreign liquor worth millions of rupees is allegedly being sold illegally at the club on a daily basis.

The lawmakers have also sought complete details from the Excise Department regarding the alleged sale, licensing and related revenues.
