Lahore continued to lead the list of the most polluted cities in the world with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 203 (very unhealthy) on Sunday evening.
According to the data collected from the IQAir website on Sunday at 05:10 pm, Delhi (India) ranked second with an AQI of 187 (unhealthy), followed by Hangzhou (China) with an AQI of 155 (unhealthy).
The air quality in the top-ranked city is very unhealthy, and unhealthy in the second and third-ranked cities, while it is unhealthy for sensitive groups in fourth to 12th-ranked cities.
Wuhan (China) is ranked in fourth place with an AQI of 147 (unhealthy for sensitive groups), followed by Milan (Italy) with an AQI of 145 (unhealthy for sensitive groups).
Tehran (Iran) is at sixth spot with an AQI of 131 (unhealthy for sensitive groups), followed by Karachi (Pakistan) with an AQI of 122 (unhealthy for sensitive groups).
Tashkent (Uzbekistan) is ranked in eighth place with an AQI of 119 (unhealthy for sensitive groups), followed by Almaty (Kazakhstan) with an AQI of 117 (unhealthy for sensitive groups). Dubai (United Arab Emirates) is in tenth place with an AQI of 115 (unhealthy for sensitive groups).
Lahore and Punjab’s other plains are witnessing a gradual rise in pollution levels, causing citizens to inhale toxic smog. Respiratory, eye and skin ailments continued to increase with no relief in sight due to the persistent dryness and ever-increasing atmospheric pollution.
Health experts have advised the public to take all possible measures to avoid smog-related hazards. Extra care has been advised for children, the elderly and asthma patients.
