Karachi Sets New Speed Limit On Shahrah E Faisal

KARACHI – In a bid to improve traffic discipline and reduce road violations, the Karachi Traffic Police have introduced speed limits on the busy Shahrah-e-Faisal road, alongside the newly implemented E-Challan system.

The decision comes after the launch of the e-challan system, which automates the process of issuing fines for traffic violations.

Shahrah-e-Faisal New Speed Limit

DSP Admin Kashif Nadeem, the speed limit on Shahrah-e-Faisal has been set at 60 kilometers per hour for passenger vehicles, including cars and jeeps.

For heavy vehicles, such as buses and trucks, the speed limit is set at 30 kilometers per hour.

The newly installed cameras on the road will automatically issue e-challans to vehicles traveling above the speed limits. This automated system aims to enhance traffic monitoring and enforce speed regulations effectively.

With the implementation of the e-challan system, the authorities aim to reduce accidents, ease traffic congestion, and ensure the safety of road users on one of Karachi’s busiest roads.

Under growing pressure from public backlash over the recently introduced e-ticketing system and steep traffic fines, the Sindh government is now contemplating lowering the challan amounts for certain traffic offenses.

The AI-driven Traffic Regulation and Citation System (Tracs), launched by the Sindh Chief Minister on October 27, has quickly resulted in the issuance of approximately 30,000 fines in just one week, amounting to millions of rupees.

These fines have been primarily for offenses such as not wearing seatbelts, using tinted windows, and riding motorcycles without helmets.
