KARACHI – Karachi Traffic Police have finalized a special traffic management plan and released a route map for the central Chehlum procession marking the occasion of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), scheduled for Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
According to a traffic police spokesperson, the central procession will begin at 9:00 a.m. from Nishtar Park and proceed along its designated route before concluding at Imambargah Hussainia Iranian in Kharadar.
As part of the security arrangements, M.A. Jinnah Road will remain closed to all types of traffic from Gurumandir to Tower throughout the procession.
To minimize disruption, traffic police have announced several alternative routes for motorists across the city.
Traffic arriving from Nazimabad will be diverted via Lasbela Chowk and Nishtar Road toward Garden, while vehicles coming from Liaquatabad will be redirected from Teen Hatti to Lasbela Chowk before proceeding toward Central Jail via Martin Road.
Motorists traveling from Hasan Square toward People’s Chowrangi will be routed through Kashmir Road, Society Light Signal on Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Jail Flyover, Teen Hatti, and Nishtar Road via Lasbela Chowk. Vehicles approaching from Shahrah-e-Faisal toward Numaish will be diverted through Noorani Kabab, Society Light Signal, and Kashmir Road.
Traffic traveling from Central Jail Gate on Jamshed Road toward Gurumandir via M.A. Jinnah Road will instead be redirected through Bahadur Yar Jang Road and Soldier Bazaar.
Vehicles approaching M.A. Jinnah Road from Garden Zoo will be diverted via Anklesaria, Gul Plaza, Coast Guard, and Holy Family Hospital.
Special arrangements have also been made for heavy and commercial vehicles. Trucks traveling from the Super Highway toward M.A. Jinnah Road will be diverted from Liaquatabad No. 10 to Nazimabad No. 2 Chowrangi before continuing through SITE Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, Sher Shah, and Mauripur. The same route will be used for the return journey.
Heavy and commercial vehicles entering the city from the National Highway will be allowed to travel via Shahrah-e-Faisal or Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Hasan Square, Liaquatabad No. 10, Nazimabad No. 2 Chowrangi, SITE Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, Sher Shah, and Mauripur.
Traffic police said no vehicle, regardless of size, will be allowed beyond Gurumandir Chowk toward the procession route. All traffic will be diverted toward Bahadur Yar Jang Road and Soldier Bazaar, while entry onto M.A. Jinnah Road will remain prohibited. Only vehicles displaying an official procession sticker on their windscreen will be permitted to join the procession via Shahrah-e-Quaideen and Society Light Signal.
Separate access routes have also been designated for procession participants arriving from Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, University Road, Old Sabzi Mandi, Kashmir Road, and other surrounding areas. Authorities also warned that no vehicle will be allowed to park anywhere along the procession route.
