Capital admin all set to seal more schools and colleges with spike in Covid-19 cases

The Islamabad Capital Territory Authority (ICTA) is all set to seal 14 more schools and colleges after students and staff there, were found infected by the virus.

According to District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Zaeem Zia, the federal capital continues to register over 1,000 cases of Covid-19 for the fourth consecutive day (Sunday) as 1,270 individuals tested positive in after 8598 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

The positivity rate in the federal capital on Sunday stood at 14.77 percent, according to the DHO.

Meanwhile, the health department is extensively conducting tests at schools and administering vac-cine to 12-year old and above students to preve3nt the spread of Covid-19.

The health authorities have requested the Deputy Commissioner (DC) to seal 14 educational institu-tions— three colleges and 11 schools—to prevent the further spread of coronavirus.

A total of 137 educational institutions – 45 colleges and 92 schools –have been sealed and 546 people diagnosed with the virus in Islamabad since Jan 1.

District Health Officer Dr Zaeem Zia a day earlier said, the request to DC was made on the basis of surveillance and test results from public and private hospitals and laboratories.

The Deputy Commissioner was asked to shut Is-lamabad Model School for Girls (I-V) Farash Town, Islamabad Model School for Girls (I-V) Kot Hathial, Islamabad Model School for Girls (I-V) Shahzad Town, Islamabad Model School (I-V) G-10/1, Islamabad Model School (I-V) School No. 1 G-9/4, Islamabad Model School for Girls (V-X) I-8/1, Islamabad Model School for Girls (I-VIII) Ra-jwal, Islamabad Model School for Girls (I-VIII) PTC Sihala, Islamabad Model School for Boys (I-VIII) I-8/1, Islamabad Model School for Girls (I-X) Nara Syedan, Islamabad Model School for Girls (I-X) President Estate Colony, Islamabad Model Col-lege for Girls I-8/4, Islamabad Model College for Girls Thanda Pani and Islamabad Model College for Boys Mughal.

Besides, Assistant Commissioner (Secretariat) Aneel Sayed sealed two other schools in the area of Mohra Noor, Banigala, on Friday.

AC Sayed said Azhar Naseer Shaheed Model School for Boys (I-VIII) Mohra Noor and Islamabad Model School for Girls (I-X) Mohra Noor were closed.

Moreover, an important meeting of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) is scheduled for Monday (today) to review the hospital’s earlier decision of limiting the Out-Patient Department (OPD) timing to 10 a.m.

The PIMS had stopped receiving patients after 10 a.m. as the hospital is hit with the coronavirus, its doctors, nurses and paramedical staff tested posi-tive.

Polyclinic hospital has already shut its OPD until Feb 5 after 100 of its employees were caught in coronavirus.
