The Islamabad Bar Association (IBA) has announced a boycott of court proceedings in the federal capital on Saturday to protest the rearrest of human rights lawyer Imaan Zainab Mazari and her husband, Hadi Ali Chattha.
The couple was rearrested on Thursday shortly after the Supreme Court suspended their 17-year sentences under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) and ordered their release on bail.
They were detained outside Adiala Jail in connection with a separate case registered at Kohsar police station in March 2025 and later sent to jail on judicial remand by an anti-terrorism court.
The IBA said the rearrest undermined judicial proceedings and fundamental rights, while objecting to arrests linked to cases whose details were not immediately disclosed. It demanded the couple’s immediate release and disclosure of the circumstances surrounding their detention.
Amnesty International and the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan have also called for Imaan and Hadi’s immediate release and withdrawal of the cases against them.
