Islamabad experienced the coldest day of this winter season as the mercury dropped to 02°C on Monday.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. A shallow westerly wave prevails over the extreme northern parts of the country.
Under these conditions, the prevailing cold and dry conditions will likely persist in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and most parts of Pakistan on Monday night, Tuesday and Wednesday. Extremely cold weather is expected in the hilly areas. Smog/fog will continue to persist in the plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh.
Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 01°C to 03°C on Tuesday, between 02°C to 04°C on Wednesday, and between 01°C to 03°C on Thursday.
Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 05°C to 07°C on Tuesday, between 06°C to 08°C on Wednesday, and between 05°C to 07°C on Thursday.
Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in the twin cities and most parts of the country during the last 24 hours. Very cold weather prevailed in hilly areas. Smog/fog persisted in the plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh.
Skardu remained the coldest place in the country, where the temperature dropped 10°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Gilgit and Kalat was recorded at -06°C, in Quetta and Leh at -05°C, and in Babusar and Gupis at -04°C.
In Islamabad, the minimum temperature was recorded at 02°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 51 per cent.
In Rawalpindi, the minimum temperature was recorded at 06°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 35 per cent.
