Iran Unveils Multi-Country Funeral Route for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

An Iranian official has announced that the funeral procession of late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei—who was martyred in US-Israeli strikes at the end of February—will pass through Iraq before reaching Iran for burial.

According to a video broadcast by state media, Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani said the farewell ceremonies and funeral rites are scheduled to take place between July 4 and July 9.

He stated that the memorial events will be held in Iraq on July 8, 2026, followed by the final ceremony in Mashhad, Iran, on July 9, 2026, where Khamenei will be laid to rest.
