Indirect receipts of NAB Rawalpindi witness annual increase of 85 percent

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Rawalpindi made plea bargain of Rs 314 billion during the last four years and its indirect receipts recorded an annual increase of 85 percent.

NAB presented a comparative review of the overall performance of NAB Rawalpindi for the period from 2018 to December 2021 headed by DG NAB Rawalpindi with performance during the last 16 years.

During the tenure of DG NAB Rawalpindi in last four years, a plea bargain amounting Rs. 314 billion was made while NAB Rawalpindi’s indirect receipts recorded an annual increase of 85%. In 49 different cases, 17,338 applicants and government institutions were distributed Rs. 22,598 million.

According to a statement issued by NAB, NAB Rawalpindi arrested 160 accused during the tenure of DG NAB Rawalpindi, in which an average increase of 67% per annum was recorded.

The arrest of 649 accused have been witnessed in Rawalpindi region from 2000 to 2018. NAB Rawalpindi executed a total of 14 accused during the current year 2021. During the tenure of NAB Rawalpindi, 134 references were filed in the accountability courts and the value of these references is Rs. 176.2 billion.

From 2018 to December 2021, fines amounting to Rs. 25,722 million were imposed on the accused by the Accountability Courts while strict punishment was awarded to 127 accused during this tenure. According to the statement, due to effective follow up of NAB Rawalpindi prosecution in the courts, the conviction rate of NAB Rawalpindi was 68% in 2021.

NAB Rawalpindi decided the cases after completing investigation on 27,369 complaints. An investigation has been launched under the chairmanship of DG NAB Rawalpindi into the internationally renowned fake accounts case and court is hearing the case of Rs. 33.78 billion while the issues related to return of billions of rupees are in the pipeline.

The cases of former president Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur are also in the court in the fake accounts case.

The LNG related case against former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan and the cases against former finance minister Muftah Ismail and former MD PSO Imran are also in the courts.
