‘I Never Beg for the Picture’: Italian PM Meloni hits back after Trump’s Controversial G7 Summit claim

I Never Beg For The Picture Italian Pm Meloni Hits Back After Trumps Controversial G7 Summit Claim

PARIS – US President Donald Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni made headlines as two leaders of political partner nations shared contrasting statements over happenings at the recently held G-7 Summit.

The controversy exploded after US President Donald Trump claimed during an interview with Italian broadcaster La7 that Meloni had “begged” him for a picture at the recent G7 summit in Evian. POTUS said the Italian leader was eager to be seen with him and implied that he had no obligation to grant her the meeting or the photo opportunity.

But Meloni wasted no time striking back. Italian Premier flatly rejected Trump’s account, calling it “completely invented.” Delivering a direct and unmistakable message, Meloni declared: “I never beg.”

Italian leader said she was stunned by Trump’s remarks and questioned why the American president would choose to speak in such terms about a country considered a close ally of the United States. She added that she wished Trump would show the same determination toward the West’s adversaries rather than its partners.

The clash remained one of the most serious public confrontations between the two leaders to date. Until now, Meloni had been widely regarded as one of Trump’s closest allies in Europe, with both leaders sharing similar views on immigration, national sovereignty, and criticism of some European Union policies.

The fallout is already being felt in diplomatic circles. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has reportedly canceled a planned visit to the United States as tensions continue to escalate.

Trump’s comments did not stop with Meloni. During same interview, he launched a broader attack on Europe, accusing European governments of failing to tackle immigration and energy challenges. He warned that unless those issues are addressed, Europe could face a dramatically different future.

The public clash between Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni highlighted growing tensions in what was once a close political alliance.  The controversy comes amid reports of deeper disagreements between two leaders, particularly over Iran.

While Trump favored tougher approach, Rome pushed for diplomacy and restraint, creating strains in their ties. The fallout already had diplomatic repercussions, with Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani reportedly canceling a planned trip to the United States.
