The Pakistan–China Friendship Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition, titled Hero Mudan, was inaugurated at the Islamabad Museum, offering a vibrant celebration of China’s rich artistic legacy while reaffirming the deep-rooted cultural and people-to-people ties between Pakistan and China. The exhibition served as a powerful platform for cultural dialogue, using visual art as a shared language of harmony, diversity, and mutual respect.
Jointly organized by renowned artist and academic Dr. Shaista Hyder and Ms. Wang Chenping, the exhibition brought together diverse artistic traditions, reflecting centuries-old connections between the two civilizations. Through calligraphy and painting, Hero Mudan presented a compelling narrative of pluralism and coexistence, underscoring the role of art in strengthening diplomatic and cultural relations.
The highlight of the exhibition was the work of Dr. Shaista Hyder, an emerging artist whose practice combines scholarly depth with contemporary expression. Her calligraphic compositions, largely executed in the historic Kufic script, demonstrated remarkable technical mastery while maintaining a modern visual sensibility. Drawing inspiration from regional floral motifs, her work employed nature as a visual language to express shared cultural identities and historical continuity across civilizations.
Dr. Hyder’s art reflected a profound engagement with history and cross-cultural exploration. By seamlessly integrating Islamic artistic traditions, Buddhist symbolism, and Pakistan’s indigenous cultural heritage, her works conveyed a strong message of inclusivity and interconnectedness. The synthesis of these diverse influences resonated deeply with visitors, many of whom praised the artworks for their intellectual depth and aesthetic refinement.
The inauguration ceremony saw in attendance distinguished guests and dignitaries including Sri Lankan High Commissioner Rear Admiral (Rtd.) Fred Seneviratne, Vietnamese Ambassador to Mr. Pham Anh Tuan and Director General (DG) of PNCA Mr. Ayub Jamali.
DG Department of Archaeology and Museums, Mr. Aman Ullah formally welcomed the attendees. Among the notable participants were Ms. Farah Naz Akbar, Parliamentary Secretary; Mr. Wang Shengjie, Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan; Mr. Wang Chenping, CEO of Hero Boss; and acclaimed artist Mr. Jamal Shah.
Overall, Hero Mudan stood out as a meaningful initiative in cultural diplomacy, highlighting shared artistic values and reinforcing Pakistan–China friendship. Visitors widely appreciated the exhibition for promoting harmony through art, with Dr. Hyder’s calligraphy and paintings emerging as a powerful symbol of friendship, pluralism, and enduring cultural bonds between the two nations.
