Govt set to charge additional Rs24.5b on electricity bills

There is a bad news for the people of Karachi as the government has decided to impose an additional burden of Rs24.50 billion on the electricity consumers of the city.

The government has decided to impose a surcharge of Rs1.52 on the electricity bills for the consumers of Karachi, with this additional surcharge, an additional burden of 24 billion 50 crore rupees will be imposed on the citizens of Karachi.This surcharge of Rs1.52 in bills will be applicable for one year while the surcharge on electricity bills is being adjusted quarterly.

In this regard, the federal government has submitted an application to Nepra, which will be heard by the authority on August 15.
