Govt focusing on provision of quality education: Yasir

A concluding session of two days National Conference on the recent advances and challenges in basic & social sciences in contemporary research was held at Government Women College Cooper Road, on Thursday.
Provincial Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun Sarfraz attended the conference as the chief guest while PHEC Chairman Dr Fazal Khalid and Colleges Lahore Director Sakhawat Ali were also present on this occasion. College Principal Dr Fauzia Naz welcomed the guests and described the salient feature of the conference.
Speaking on this occasion, the minister said that no attention was paid in the past for the betterment of colleges and quality education but now the government was taking concrete steps to improve the quality of education.
Educational reform package for higher education was being implemented. A ten-year plan to establish universities at the district-level in the province has been started. Work has been started, after the legislation, on the plan of setting up of eight universities. He further maintained that gradually the government will establish a university in each district. A world-class university will be established at the division level.
He said that the Punjab Higher Education Commission was taking steps to improve the global ranking of the local universities. He said that a cell has been set up in PHEC to improve the international ranking of the universities which was providing guidance to the universities. He said that the PTI government had appointed vice-chancellors of all universities and chairmen of all educational boards on merit.
He said that when the government came into power, there were only 48 graduate colleges, and by the end of this academic year, the number would be reached to 100.
He further maintained that in order to provide quality education to the students at an affordable fee the graduate colleges will be brought at par with the university standards.
He said that now the quality of education of colleges in remote areas will also be visible.
