PESHAWAR – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to make official meetings fully virtual and implement a 50% work-from-home policy across government offices to promote fuel conservation and responsible governance.
Shafiq Jan, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information, said the provincial cabinet has approved the Fuel Conservation and Responsible Governance Initiative. Under the Chief Minister’s directives, fuel-saving measures will be in place for two months, with possible extensions based on progress reviews.
He stated that all government department meetings will now be conducted entirely online. Additionally, fuel allowances for official vehicles will be reduced by 25%, bringing the total reduction to 50%—the remaining 25% having already been in effect during COVID-19 restrictions. Police, rescue services, and law enforcement agencies are exempt from this fuel cut.
The special assistant added that a 50% work-from-home policy will be introduced in government offices. The initiative also includes significant reductions in the use of VIP protocol vehicles and helicopters, as well as strict limits on unnecessary government expenditures, events, and official dinners.
Furthermore, the government is considering closing educational institutions on Fridays to reduce fuel consumption.
Daily monitoring of petrol stations will be conducted, and strict action will be taken against hoarding. Diesel supply will be ensured for farmers and wheat harvesting operations.
