The provincial government has stopped fresh Sinopharm vaccinations to ensure adequate supply for people who have already received their first dose of the Chinese vaccine.

The Sindh director general health, in this regard, has issued orders to the district health officers across the province.

The health department instructed to the medical staff to administer AstraZeneca vaccine instead of Sinopharm to first time receivers. It added that any new individual will not be given the Sinopharm vaccine.

Despite the orders, 3,335 doses of Sinopharm vaccine were administered in Karachi East, 913 in Karachi West and 173 in Malir. Murtaza Wahab, a spokesperson for the provincial government said that fresh doses of Sinopharm vaccine have been stopped temporarily to ensure adequate supply for people who have already received their first jab of the vaccine.

Sindh’s Parliamentary Secretary for Health QasimSoomro has said that the use of Sinopharm vaccine as first dose has been restricted due to shortage in its supply.

The remaining stock is instead being reserved to be used for second dose of the vaccine.
