England Outplay Sri Lanka In T20 World Cup Super Eight Clash

England thrashed Sri Lanka by 51 runs in the Group-II Super Eight match of the T20 World Cup at Pallekele on Sunday afternoon.

Chasing a 147-run target for victory, Sri Lanka kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were bundled out for 95 in 16.4 overs.

Skipper Dasun Shanaka was the top scorer, who made 30 off 24 balls, hitting one four and two maximums. Kamindu Mendis contributed 13 off 11 balls, and Dunith Wellalage and Maheesh Theekshana 10 each. No other batter could enter the double figures.

Player of the match Will Jacks bagged three wickets and Jofra Archer, Liam Dawson and Adil Rasheed two each, while Jamie Overton took one wicket.

After being put into bat, England posted 146/9 in their quota of 20 overs. Opener Phil Salt was the highest scorer for his side with 62 off 40 balls, laced with six fours and two maximums.

Will Jacks made 21 off 14 balls, hitting four boundaries. Skipper Harry Brook contributed 14 off seven balls with the help of one boundary. Sam Curran contributed 11 off 11 balls and Jamie Overton 10 off 10 balls.

Dunith Wellalage bagged three wickets, Dilshan Madushanka and Maheesh Theekshana two each, and Dushmantha Chameera one, while Tom Banton was run out.
