ISLAMABAD – The electricity consumers in Pakistan may face higher bills in July as the local authorities consider a proposed increase of 82 paisa per unit under the monthly Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA) mechanism.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking an increase in electricity prices for the month of May’s fuel adjustment.
NEPRA has scheduled a hearing on the matter for June 30.
The proposed increase comes amid ongoing inflationary pressures and rising utility costs, which have already impacted household budgets nationwide.
According to the petition, the average fuel cost of electricity generation in May was recorded at Rs9.25 per unit, which has been used as the basis for the proposed adjustment.
If approved, the increase is expected to place an additional burden of approximately Rs12 billion on electricity consumers across the country.
NEPRA will examine the submitted data, cost calculations, and justification during the hearing before issuing a final decision on the proposed tariff adjustment.
The regulator’s ruling will determine whether the additional cost is passed on to consumers in their upcoming electricity bills.
