The role of social media is very important for the immediate delivery of modern agricultural information to the farmers. Steps should be taken to provide immediate information to the farmers through the effective use of social media. These views were expressed by Minister for Agriculture, Punjab Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani while presiding over a meeting held regarding the transmission of agricultural information to the farmers using modern media.
He further added that according to the vision of Chief Minister, Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, every department should ensure steps for immediate delivery of information to the people. Secretary Agriculture, Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahoo also participated in the meeting.
On this occasion, Provincial Minister for Agriculture Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani said that the use of social media is increasing rapidly in Pakistan. It is very necessary for the farmers to be active so that the farmers get timely information about the latest crop production technology, weather conditions, market rates and farmer-friendly projects of the Punjab government. There are more than 71.70 million social media users in Pakistan.
Effective use of social media platforms for technical guidance of farmers is the most important need of the hour, which not only provides immediate awareness but also saves time and money.
On this occasion, Secretary Agriculture Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahoo said that the services of agricultural extension are being digitalized for the information of the farmers all over the world. It is possible to increase per acre production of crops through effective use of media.
Departmental reforms should be made to ensure the delivery of timely and quality information so that the public can benefit from good and comprehensive information related to agriculture.
In the meeting, Additional Secretary Agriculture (Planning) Captain (R) Waqas Rashid, Director General Agriculture Field Engineer Ahmed Sohail, Consultant Agriculture Department Dr. Anjum Ali and Director Agricultural Information, Punjab Naveed Asmat Kahloon and other officers attended.
