ON the International Day of Education, President Asif Ali Zardari, urged stakeholders to reaffirm education as a national priority, emphasizing the need to empower youth as partners in building a skilled and resilient nation.

With a large, youthful demographic, Pakistan has the potential to leverage what is known as the “demographic dividend.” But to unlock this potential, the country must invest in an education system that meets the demands of the modern world.

To prepare its youth for the challenges and opportunities these technologies present, we must equip our educational institutions with the necessary resources both human and technological. This is essential for cultivating critical thinking, ethical decision-making and a strong sense of social responsibility among the youth. As the president pointed out, expanding access to education for underserved communities, women and madrassa students is vital for promoting social cohesion and equitable progress. Vocational and technical education also plays a crucial role in preparing youth for the workforce. By aligning training with international standards and focusing on emerging fields we can ensure that the youth are equipped with employable skills.
