KARACHI – Cyclone Asna has slightly turned away as it is now approximately 200 Kilometers away from Karachi and 180 kilometers from Thattha.

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), however, issued its sixth alert regarding the sea storm which is forming in the northeastern Arabian Sea.

The cyclone is about 250 kilometers from the coastal town of Ormara in Balochistan and 440 kilometers from Gwadar. The cyclone’s path is expected to move initially west/northwest and later shift to west/southwest.

The PMD warned of potential effects from the cyclone, including heavy rain with thunder and lightning in Karachi Division, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, Hyderabad, T.M. Khan, T.A. Yaar, Matiari, Jamshoro and nearby areas, with the winds reaching speeds of 60 to 70 kilometers per hour.

In Sindh, the districts such as Dadu may experience rain until August 31 while Balochistan’s districts of Hub, Lasbela, Awaran, Kech and Gwadar could see rain until September 1.

Intense rainfall may lead to water accumulation in low-lying areas of the Makran coastal region.

The PMD also said that with the winds reaching speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour, the sea is expected to be extremely rough.

The fishermen in Sindh and Balochistan were advised not to venture into the sea until September 1.
