Cm Sohail Afridis Low Key Meeting With Corps Commander Peshawar Raises Eyebrows

PEHAWAR – KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi called on Corps Commander Peshawar, Lt. Gen. Omer Ahmed Bukhari, to discuss law and order, counter-terrorism, and tribal district development.

Political circles are buzzing as newly appointed Chief Minister Sohail Afridi reportedly had one-on-one enagement with Corps Commander Peshawar, Lieutenant General Omer Ahmed Bukhari, sparking intense speculation over whether he bypassed Imran Khan.

The meeting, held Friday at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, reportedly focused on law and order, counter-terrorism strategies, and tribal district development projects. Sources say Afridi emphasized that all stakeholders must be on board to ensure peace and called for a coordinated plan against terrorism. A follow-up Apex Committee meeting was scheduled for the next day.

However, social media has erupted with questions: Did Afridi take Imran Khan’s permission before this high-profile meeting? Critics are pointing to his earlier insistence on consulting Khan before forming the provincial cabinet, suggesting a stunning departure from his own stance.

Those familiar with development said this unprecedented move could trigger a new power struggle in KP, raising tensions ahead of crucial governance decisions.

The meeting comes as the country has seen an uptick in terror attacks, particularly in KP, mostly targeting police, law enforcement personnel, and armed forces. The spike followed the banned TTP’s breach of a ceasefire agreement with the government.

Why are Afghan Taliban afraid to take action against TTP despite cross-border attacks?
