Cm Maryam Nawaz Takes Centre Stage At Cop30 With Punjabs Green Revolution Vision

BELEM – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has taken the global stage by storm at the COP30 Climate Summit, declaring Punjab as the new epicenter of South Asia’s Green Revolution.

In her speech, CM Punjab announced that “the forests of Punjab are breathing again, and the rivers are alive once more.” She revealed an unprecedented climate transformation plan increasing Punjab’s Clean Air Budget from 94 billion to 123 billion rupees, expanding AI-powered smog control, and shifting the entire transport network to electric mobility.

Maryam said Punjab government is not just cleaning streets; we are cleaning our children’s future. She announced that Punjab is converting every pile of garbage into green fuel, establishing waste-to-energy plants and recycling parks across the province. Under the ‘Suthra Punjab’ initiative, 150,000 new green jobs have been created, and all vehicles used are locally manufactured.

Pakistan’s first carbon market project in Lakhodair is already generating methane and green energy, earning carbon credits and reinvesting them in clean infrastructure.

In one of the most ambitious clean transport programs in Asia, Punjab will soon have 1,500 electric buses, 120,000 e-bikes and e-rickshaws, and 1,100 electric taxis running across 42 cities.
Modern e-mobility ecosystems featuring solar-powered charging depots, AI route optimization, and digital fare systems will make Punjab’s transport zero-emission and smart.
Maryam declared this shift a “new era of green mobility and climate-conscious governance.”

Chief Minister revealed that under the Punjab Wildlife and Biodiversity Program, over 35,000 birds and 700 animals have been rescued, while South Asia’s largest wildlife hospital is under construction.
She announced a special Forest Protection Force equipped with drones, GPS tracking, and AI dashboards, working to protect millions of newly planted trees along Punjab’s rivers.
“Where jungles had fallen silent and birds had vanished, today life has returned,” she said.

Maryam Nawaz shared that 2,500 model villages are being built, each with clean drinking water and full sanitation, while 41 district water authorities and 66 city programs have already been launched.
Punjab’s farmers are leading a new Green Economy, armed with AI-driven machinery, solar irrigation, and climate-smart farming.

The province has distributed 80 billion rupees in interest-free loans for agricultural mechanization and reduced crop residue burning by 65% in collaboration with SUPARCO and NASA.

Punjab has established 100 Air Quality Monitoring Stations, all connected to an AI-powered Smog War Room in Lahore, first of its kind in South Asia. A real-time Climate Observatory now links Punjab to satellites and global climate sensors, providing early warnings for floods, smog, and environmental risks.

Drawing parallels between the Amazon Rainforest and the Indus River, Maryam Nawaz declared that “human survival is tied to the survival of nature.” She reminded the global community that Pakistan contributes less than 1% to global emissions yet remains among the ten most climate-affected countries.
Recalling the 2025 Punjab floods, which displaced over 5 million people, she praised her government’s record-breaking rescue and digital relief operations, calling them “a turning point in disaster preparedness.”

Concluding her address, Maryam Nawaz said:“True leadership today is not about power over others, it is about partnership with nature.”

She urged the world to make COP30 a decade of action, where the Global North leads responsibly and the Global South rises with innovation and resilience.
