China Urges US, Iran to Restore Safe Passage Through Hormuz

China on Tuesday urged the United States and Iran to restore secure navigation through the Strait of Hormuz after renewed tensions between the two countries reignited disputes over control of the strategically important waterway.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said the international community was united in seeking the swift resumption of safe, normal maritime traffic through the strait. He added that Beijing would continue working toward easing tensions and promoting regional stability through diplomatic efforts.

Separately, Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly criticised Britain’s decision to classify the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a security threat, describing the move as “unjustified” and “irresponsible.”

Tehran maintained that the IRGC is an official branch of Iran’s armed forces and accused the United Kingdom of breaching international law by taking action against a state institution.
