Capital security reinforced

INTERIOR Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced a comprehensive mobilization of national resources for the security of federal capital, underscoring that law enforcement agencies must remain in a constant state of high alert to neutralize anti-state elements. His pledge to equip the police with cutting-edge weaponry and modern technology reflects recognition that modern threats demand modern responses. Words alone cannot defeat terrorism; capability, coordination and unwavering resolve can.

Following directives from police authorities, a high-security regime has also been enforced throughout the district. Joint checkpoints established by the police of Rawalpindi and Islamabad signal a coordinated approach, while hundreds of additional personnel have been deployed to fortify vulnerable points. These extraordinary measures were not adopted in a vacuum. They were necessitated by the tragic suicide attack on an Imambargah in Islamabad that claimed scores of innocent lives and left many others injured. That heinous act was not merely an assault on a place of worship; it was an attack on the peace, unity and social fabric of the nation. The integrated security plan extending to mosques, Imambargahs, churches and other sensitive installations reflects the gravity of the threat and the determination to prevent such incidents from recurring. Equipping the police with the necessary resources both human and technological is essential. Counterterrorism today requires more than bravery; it demands intelligence-driven operations, advanced surveillance systems, forensic capabilities and seamless inter-agency coordination. The intensification of search, sweep and combing operations as well as enforcement of tenancy and employee registration laws, demonstrates an understanding that security begins with accurate data and vigilant oversight. The terrorists seek to stoke instability and create the impression that Pakistan is unsafe. Their objective is psychological as much as physical: to undermine investor confidence, sow sectarian discord and erode public trust in state institutions. This narrative must be decisively defeated. There can be no complacency. These terrorists must be pursued in their hideouts, their logistical networks dismantled, their financiers exposed and their operational capacity eliminated. We are confident that, just as our security forces defeated these enemies before, they will do so once again. With unwavering political will, adequate resources and national unity, terrorism can be annihilated once and for all.
