Babar Azam surpasses Rohit Sharma to become leading run-scorer in T20Is

Before the start of the second T20I against the Proteas, star batter Babar Azam needed just nine runs to surpass Rohit Sharma’s 4,231.

By adding 11 unbeaten runs to his overall tally in the T20Is, Babar has become the leading run-scorer in the shortest format with 4,234 runs at an average of 39.57.

Babar Azam has reached this milestone in 123 innings in which he remained not out on 16 occasions. During his illustrious career as a top-order batter, Babar hit three centuries and 36 half-centuries, the most fifty-plus scores in this format alongside India’s Virat Kohli.

Rohit Sharma is now placed at the second spot with 4,231 runs. He made these runs in 151 innings, 29 innings more than Babar Azam. Sharma still holds the record of the most hundreds alongside Australia’s Glenn Maxwell (5).

Virat Kohli is on the third spot with 4,188 runs, the only other batter in the world who has scored 4,000-plus runs.
