KARACHI – The mystery surrounding murder of Karachi businessman Mir Raza took another dramatic turn after days of forensic efforts, investigators successfully unlocked his Apple Watch, uncovering crucial digital evidence that could help piece together his final hours.

As CTD officials are looking into newly recovered data alongside CCTV footage and forensic findings, officials said the investigation has entered a critical phase, with more revelations coming soon.

The smartwatch brings key information, including financial transaction records and other valuable digital data that investigators believe could help reconstruct Mir Raza’s final movements and uncover critical links in the investigation. Authorities say additional evidence has also been collected, with a major police press conference expected within the next 48 hours.

Mir Raza’s iPhone and Apple Watch had earlier been seized by East Police after investigators discovered that data on both devices had been deleted. The devices were later sent to the CTD’s specialized digital forensic center. While experts have so far failed to crack the iPhone’s passcode, they were able to access the Apple Watch, marking what police are calling a significant investigative breakthrough.

The latest digital evidence comes as the post-mortem report has raised fresh questions about the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza’s death.

As per autopsy findings, Mir’s body was couple of days old when it was found. Medical examination revealed bullet entry wound on the victim’s back and a larger exit wound on the chest, showing that the bullet entered from behind before exiting through the front.

The report further siad the body almost decomposed, and was in swelling condition, extensive skin deterioration and substantial facial damage. Medical-Legal Officer (MLO) sources said the exact cause of the facial injuries could have been determined through a more detailed examination of the head. Investigators noted suspicious marks on the victim’s right hand, while photographs reportedly show another wound beneath the chin.

The outcome of post-mortem examination might have been different had it been conducted under the supervision of a senior medical officer.

Investigators secured CCTV footage recorded at around 8:00 a.m. on July 29, showing a garbage collector arriving at the crime scene. According to investigators, the individual remained at the location for approximately eight minutes, raising suspicions that the weapon used in the crime may have been removed from the scene during that time.

Mir managed waffle business while also investing and trading in digital currencies. Over time, he is said to have built a network of individuals who entrusted him with their money, promising regular returns on their investments, per reports.

For a period, investors were reportedly paid as agreed. However, investigators believe his cryptocurrency business began suffering heavy financial losses from December 2025 onward, creating mounting financial pressure that may now form part of the broader investigation into his activities and circumstances leading up to his death.

Amid all this, Mir Raza Ali’s body was discovered on July 29 in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area. Police are now working to identify the individual captured in the CCTV footage while correlating the newly recovered smartwatch data, forensic findings, surveillance footage and other evidence to piece together the events leading to the killing.
