ISLAMABAD – The federal government has launched the “Power Smart” app enabling electricity consumers to sent their meter reading themselves in order to avoid overbilling and other difficulties.
The app will bring a major relief to the protected consumers, who use electricity units below 200 per month, as it will save them from inflated bills caused by delays from meter readers.
The protected category for electricity consumers is an important facility under which up to 200 units of electricity are provided at subsidized rates of Rs14.16 per unit.
In case, they crosses 200-mark due to delay reading by the meter readers, they are charged Rs34.26 per unit.
However, due to delays or negligence by meter readers, this benefit turns into a costly burden. If the reading is not done on time, units increase, which causes the consumer to fall out of the protected category and into a higher tariff slab. To re-enter the subsidized rate, a six-month waiting period becomes mandatory.

The Power Division has introduced the “Power Smart” app under the campaign “*Apna Meter, Apni Reading*” (Your Meter, Your Reading).

Power Smart App Uses
With this app, consumers will now take a picture of the meter on the specified reading date and upload it to the app. The monthly bill will be issued based on that reading.
If the user provides the reading on the designated day, then the reading taken by the meter reader will not be prioritized, and only the user-provided reading will be recorded.
Through this app, users will not only be able to monitor their bills but also oversee the reading process.
A user can also apply for the new connection through this app besides availing several other facilities.
