China’s e-commerce giant Alibaba has been intensifying anti-counterfeiting and intellectual property rights (IPR) protection in recent years, according to a company report released. So far, over 10 anticounterfeiting technologies have been developed by the company, such as sampling and fake product screening models as well as a commodity information database. In 2017, Alibaba established Anti-Counterfeiting Alliance, joined by 30 brands initially. By the end of 2019, a total of 170 brands from 17 countries and regions had joined the alliance. In 2019, 4,125 suspects who were involved in counterfeiting related crimes were caught by police thanks to aid from the company, according to the report. In 2018, 1,953 such suspects were caught.
