Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Director General Muhammad Goher Nafees has launched public awareness campaign “Chai Paani” against corruption in public offices on Thursday.
Goher Nafees informed that objective of the campaign is to generate debate on national media about the acceptance of petty corruption in the name of Chai Paani by masses in public offices.
He said it is unfortunate to observe that people don’t even seem bothered about giving away small bribes to lower tier officials working in government offices for the job they are bound to do anyway as they are paid out of taxpayers money.
He said without public trust in government offices, the most talked about dream of good governance was impossible.
He said in the prevalence of rampant corruption culture in public offices , it was hard to secure trust of the common man on government machinery.
Anti-Corruption being the premier investigation and anti-corruption agency in Punjab was striving hard to curb the social menace of corruption under its legal framework but the cooperation of the masses was important to get the job done.
While launching the public awareness campaign, Muhammad Gohar Nafees directed all the regional directors to speed up crackdown on corrupt officials/ officers in government offices.
Reportedly, as many as seven corrupt officials/ officers including one Naib Tehsildar from Mianwali, two Inspectors and two Patwaris among four others were arrested red handed from various cities of the Punjab.
The DG ACE made it clear that there is zero tolerance policy towards any and every kind of corruption in Punjab.
He added that ACE would leave no stone unturned to make this campaign successful across the width and breadth of the province.
