Residents of collapsed Lyari building to have new apartments

Secretary Local Government Sindh Roshan Ali Sheikh chaired an important meeting in his office on Thursday in which Additional Secretary Town Planning Jamaluddin Jalali, Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Saif-ur-Rehman, Secretary Technical Committee SBCA and other officers participated. The participants of the meeting briefed the Secretary Local Government on the steps to be taken regarding the issue of dilapidated buildings in the city. Speaking on the occasion, Roshan Ali Sheikh said that in the meeting held under the chairmanship of Sindh Local Government Minister regarding damaged buildings, it was unanimously decided that Lyari and other the dilapidated buildings in the area will be rebuilt and alternative accommodation will be provided for the occupants of the collapsed buildings. Briefing about the meeting, Roshan Ali Sheikh said that the steps for resettlement of the occupants of the affected buildings have been finalized and in the first phase, the building which was destroyed in recent days in Lyari will be rebuilt. An agreement is being worked out under which a memorandum will be signed between KMC and Saylani Welfare Trust and a building will be constructed for the affected residents in collaboration with ABAD. The Secretary Local Government said that partial resettlement of the residents would also be done till the construction of the building for which orders have been issued. According to Sindh Local Government Secretary, a committee headed by the concerned Deputy Commissioner will be constituted at the district level to identify and rehabilitate damaged buildings in all areas. Representatives of KMC, SBCA, Saylani Welfare, ABAD and Local Government will be the part of committee.
