KARACHI – The judicial commission investigating the death of Mir Raza on Thursday submitted its inquiry report to the Sindh government.
Additional Secretary of the Home Department Javed Abro received the report, which has been submitted in sealed envelopes addressed to Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
The report is expected to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza’s death and establish whether he was murdered or died by suicide.
According to the sources, the report comprises four volumes and has been submitted along with a covering letter addressed to the chief minister. The report was handed over in two separate sealed envelopes.
Speaking to the media, Javed Abro confirmed that the Home Department had received the report, adding that the government would decide on the next course of action. He said the commission’s proceedings had been conducted in open court.
Abro said the department’s responsibility was to forward the report to the provincial government, which would determine what steps should be taken next.
The report includes statements from 49 individuals connected to the case. The commission held 15 hearings and recorded two statements through video link.
The judicial commission was constituted on August 24 to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza’s death.
Mir Raza’s body was found in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area on July 29. The incident triggered prolonged protests, while an initial post-mortem examination was followed by the exhumation of his body for a second examination.
The Sindh government will decide whether the commission’s findings should be made public.
Meanwhile, Mir Raza’s family has been demanding the formation of a joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the circumstances surrounding his death.
