The Pakistan Navy has seized narcotics estimated at $96 million in two separate counter-narcotics operations in the Arabian Sea, the military’s media wing said Wednesday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operations were carried out by Pakistan Navy Ship YARMOOK during its deployment in the Arabian Sea.
The naval vessel intercepted two dhows operating at a considerable distance from the Pakistani coast and recovered around 850kg of ice and 2,000kg of hashish/cannabis from hidden compartments aboard the boats.
The seized drugs, with an estimated value of $96 million, have been secured and will be handed over to relevant authorities for further action and legal proceedings, ISPR said.
The operations demonstrated the Pakistan Navy’s continued vigilance and presence at sea, as well as its efforts to combat illicit maritime trafficking and contribute to regional maritime security, the military’s media wing added.
