Four injured Pakistani sailors and the remains of three crew members killed during the recovery of hijacked MT Honour 25 arrived at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport on Sunday.
The injured sailors — Usman Ghani, Aqeel Khan, Ameen bin Shams and Yasir Khan — and the remains of Rafiullah Khan, Syed Kashif Umar and Mahmood Ahmad Ansari reached Karachi aboard Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 694.
Sindh Governor Nihal Hashmi and provincial ministers Saeed Ghani and Syed Nasir Hussain Shah were among officials present to receive them.
The MT Honour 25 was seized by pirates off Somalia’s Puntland coast on April 21. Puntland forces later freed the tanker and arrested 16 suspected pirates. Five crew members were killed, including three Pakistanis, while four others were injured.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced Rs12.5 million for each bereaved family, along with free education and healthcare for their children and a house for each family.
Three Pakistani sailors and the tanker’s captain remain aboard the vessel, with diplomatic efforts continuing to secure their safe return.
