Heavy rain disrupts routine life in Lahore as wet spell continues across Punjab

Heavy monsoon rains lashes Lahore and parts of Punjab on Monday, disrupting routine life by causing urban flooding, power outages and massive traffic jams.

More rains with isolated heavy falls are likely in Lahore and most parts of Punjab on Monday evening and night, as well as on Tuesday, with occasional breaks.

Synoptic Situation

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents are continuously penetrating upper and central parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave is also affecting upper parts of the country and likely to persist during next 24hrs.

More monsoon rains and windstorms with isolated heavy downpours are likely in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Nankana Sahib, Okara, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Khushab, Mianwali, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Layyah, Bhakkar and Noorpur Thal on Monday evening and night and as well as on Tuesday, with occasional breaks.

Rains and gusty winds are also expected at isolated places in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, Khanpur, Multan, Vehari, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur.

Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in Sheikhupura, Kasur, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, Okara, Bahawalnagar, Gujranwala, Gujarat, Sialkot, Lahore, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi.

Landslides may occur in vulnerable areas of Murree and Galiyat. Widespread rains may trigger flash floods in local streams and nullahs of Murree, Galiyat, northeastern Punjab, Islamabad, and Pothohar Region.
