IN a moment of profound historic significance, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have sealed a landmark Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA) — a pact that redefines the security architecture of the Muslim world and signals a decisive step toward collective strength and deterrence against external aggression.
According to official reports from the Government of Pakistan, the agreement clearly stipulates that any act of aggression against one of the two nations will be regarded as an act of aggression against both. The conclusion of this Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia — two brotherly Islamic nations whose ties of trust, fraternity and cooperation span more than seven and a half decades — is both timely and of historic significance.
At a time when regional peace and stability face heightened challenges, this pact underscores the shared commitment of both nations to safeguarding their mutual interests and ensuring collective security. The Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA), signed by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, stands as a clear testament to the shared resolve of both nations to enhance their security and promote peace and stability not only in the region but also globally.
The pact further seeks to strengthen defence cooperation across multiple dimensions between the two brotherly Islamic countries and to fortify their joint deterrence against any act of aggression. Israel’s ever-belligerent posture, driven by hegemonic ambitions and expansionist designs, has today become a direct threat to the security and territorial integrity of the entire region. Its blatant acts of aggression against Palestine, Syria, Yemen, Lebanon and most recently Doha–Qatar, stand as undeniable proof of this reality.
Backed by unwavering military and financial support from the West, Israel has been emboldened to pursue its expansionist agenda across the region with complete impunity. The only viable way to deter Israel and put an end to its aggression is through the unwavering unity of the Muslim Ummah. Just as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has taken a decisive step forward, other Islamic nations of the region must also move swiftly to enter into defence pacts with Pakistan. Such alliances are essential to safeguard mutual interests and to secure the collective defence of the region.
The world — including those powers complicit in fueling aggression against the nations of this region — must not forget: Pakistan is a recognized and declared nuclear power. Any hostile action against Pakistan or its partners would carry catastrophic consequences not only for the region but for the entire world. While Pakistan has always sought peace, it will take every measure necessary to defend its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity — as well as that of its allies.
