KARACHI – Authorities in Sindh set an April 2025 deadline to end the use of Yellow Number Plates on Private Cars and the deadline has been set for April 2025.

Sindh Excise and Taxation Department announced a new policy regarding vehicle number plates, to streamline vehicle identification and for citizens’ safety. Under the new update, private vehicles in the province will be issued white number plates adorned with the traditional Sindh Ajrak design.

Commercial vehicles will get yellow number plates with the same iconic design. The new policy will be enforced from April 3, 2025, and there will be a crackdown on use of yellow number plates on private vehicles and black number plates on commercial vehicles after deadlines.

The new initiative follows the Sindh government’s earlier launch of a premium number plate scheme, offering vehicle owners the chance to purchase exclusive plates with distinctive designs and unique numbers.

Traffic authorities directed authorities to intensify action against vehicles without valid number plates to prevent violations and misuse of the e-challan system. The traffic police also issued 221,000 fines for such offenses. Strict penalties will be imposed on vehicles with fake or unregistered plates, including those covered to avoid detection.
